Every year our resolution is to shop smart, buy only capsule pieces and be really clever with our wardrobe. Then we forget – oops! But this year we’re determined so we thought we’d show you how to start with a summer basic that you can buy now (at sale prices of course!) and wear now – yes, even in the winter!
We’re taking the Roxy Gold Coast Dress in Military (available on sale at Rip101 at £39.50) as our example. This gorgeous dress has a bold print, is fully lined and has adjustable straps. Also the combination of red, pink, green and brown makes it easy to match to existing pieces in your wardrobe:
1. Casual Out and About
Wear over jeans with a cardigan (or alternatively a long sleeved plain tee and a fur gilet). You’ll add a great splash of colour to the dark days! On a really wintery day, add a long chunky cardigan.
2. Dress Down Friday
Wear the dress to work with leggings and a smart cardigan. You could add simple pieces of jewellery such as a cuff bangle to add in a bit of glamour. Tie a silk scarf to your handbag in a matching tone such as pink or green from the dress, to pull it all together.
3. For Winter Sun
Bit of a cheat but there are lots of last minute cheap flights available – and when better to go away than in the winter? Take a pair of sandals so you can wear the dress by day and in the bar at night.
4. For Work
Yes, even for work, you can wear this dress. This time, instead of leggings go for a pair of thick patterned tights and a great pair of shoe boots. Keep to either brown or black. Wear a smart plain jacket, preferably fitted and choose your accessories carefully for a groomed look. Think subtle! If you have a silk scarf that works well with the colours, this adds a great professional look. Alternatively, keep the jacket open but add a wide belt with a large buckle to add more definition.
5. Partying
Summer dresses and party dresses aren’t that far apart on the fashion scale. A sparkly crocheted shrug or a fur one would work really well with this dress, and you can even wear your summer sandals (we like the Roxy Nalla in Linen). Experiment with a small belt just under the bust – a narrow gold belt could work brilliantly. Spray tan your legs and add some fabulous jewellery and an evening bag to complete the look.
